Welcome to the Costa de la Luz, Spain!
Hi there,
My name is David and I'm 35 years old (currently).
I am in the process of moving to the Costa de la Luz and thought I would share the information, findings, entertainment and fun things I have found since I made the decision.
I made the decision to move overseas nearly two years ago, well in real terms probably longer than that but I only made the conscious decision to do so about two years ago. I travelled across the southern coast of Spain, from Barcelona to Ayamonte (near the Portuguese Border). It was only when I drove passed Algeciras on the south western point of Spain that I discovered a coastline that I had no idea existed, The Costa de la Luz!
From this moment on, I knew this was where I wanted to be. Long white sandy beaches and green conifer trees as far as I could see. The more I looked into the area, the more it appealed to me.
Last August, after much searching, I bought a villa in an area just outside Chiclana de la Frontera. I started taking holidays from work to decorate and furnish the property and then January 2005, I was made redundant from my job. For a while I panicked and wondered how I was going to cope with a house in Spain and a Flat in the UK and no salary so I decided to take some time out and spend in my new house in Spain and check out the lay of the land locally.
It was only once I arrived that i discovered most people who arrive in this part of Spain have no idea what they are going to do for work (except those who have retired of course). So I sat in my bedroom before I bought a TV and came up with some ideas of what I could do to give myself an income. At 2am I decided the brain should be given a rest and decided to go to sleep. Of course sods law happened and the moment I wanted to sleep I couldnt, so I switched the light on and wrote a few more ideas down. Finally I dozed off.
I stayed in Spain a month decorating the inside of the house (the garden still looks like a prairie). After I returned to good old blighty I set about create one of my ideas into reality and it was from this that I, with the help of two guys in the know and a few pushes of encouragement from friends, that the www.costaluzspain.com website was born. It encompasses all the hiccups i encountered when I first arrived and didnt know anyone to ask where to buy varies things.
The site is of course still in its very early stages and just about to go live to the real world but I am really excited about it and I have enjoyed creating it.
So the upshot is that I started this blog to help, encourage, give feedback, agree, disagree, motivate and just generally chat to anyone thinking of moving out to spain, anyone already in spain, or none of the above.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on anything to do with the Costa de la Luz!
Catch you soon with another update,
Thanks for popping by!
David
